5 ways to develop resilience

If you’ve ever had an injury before, you’ve noticed that until that injury heals, you won’t be

comfortable. Sometimes, if you’re an employee, it may be an excuse for being absent from work because

of your experience with pain.

I started with this, just to make sure you remember what resilience is. There is a period of

pain, but after the pain, you’ve got to step out of the house and continue as if nothing

happened.

So, resilience is the ability for you to feel better as soon as something unpleasant, like an

injury happens to you. Injury or sickness may not be the only thing to recover from immediately.

It can be something like loss of money and business or any other thing.

I lost money to a close family friend sometime in 2003 and that ended my first business.

After feeling bad due to this loss, I have to find a solution to it. I have to feel better quickly to

find something to do.

I went into marketing products for a particular chemical company. It wasn’t easy compared

to running my own business. But it helped me for the time it lasted.

When you hear about resilience that doesn’t mean that people don’t have one pain or the

other. The pain is there, but you have to find a way to deal with it depending on what you’re going

through at that moment.

If you are conversant with footballers, you can see how quickly they go back to the field

shortly after their injury heals. This is also because of resilience, it’s all about regaining strength and the right sound of

mind to move on with life.

You should know that in life nothing comes easy. So don’t be discouraged when

trying to recover from any unpleasant situation. It requires patience and that exactly helps me in any situation.

● Talk to close people

Relate with people you’re close with, it can be family members or trusted friends.

Share how you feel and be sure you’ll get support.

● Be positive

This is you looking at things with a positive eye. To feel strong, bright and hopeful

about life.

● Take care of your well-being

This is where your mental health comes to mind. You should recognise when you

need a break to take time off and to recharge.

● Learn lessons

There should be lessons to learn from any setback, so resilience allows you to learn

lessons from your experience to adapt and make changes for better growth.
